dichro1 Posted August 20, 2010 Report Share Posted August 20, 2010 A file that I have erased, keeps re-appearing in windows explorer, and two ACDSee file management programs I have. In Winexplore, the file was originally a .jpg file, but now has no extension when it appears. If I try to open it, I get a message saying it doesn't exist. I cannot delete it from WE, but ACDSee does, (both versions). If I delete it randomly turns up again. Whether I delete it, move it, copy it, or open or view it, I get a message that says it doesn't exist. If I try to delete folder, I get a message saying it can't be deleted. ?????? If I delete it with several files, I get a message that this one doesn't exist, and can't be deleted!How do I get rid of this mystery file? MANEMAN Posted August 20, 2010 Report Share Posted August 20, 2010 Hi there, and welcome.You could try deleting this file in "Safe Mode."Perhaps giving it back an extension if it is really stubborn.Alternatively try **Unlocker** ( Free ! )Sometimes it can become neccessary to "Show hidden files and folders" - look for recycle bin icons that say either "Recycle" or "Recycler", open them and delete from that environment. If the drive is partitioned or you are using more than one drive. - Check more than the C: drive !!Files of this type that refuse to be deleted should also be thought of as suspicious and possibly malevolent. (Trojan,Rootkit,Virus).Run a scan with your own anti-virus/anti malware. Download the excellent free version of **Superantispyware** and run a scan with that also.Do a clean-up with **CC Cleaner**, and then Defrag all drives and partitions, run Chkdsk. By this stage the file should be gone.If not. Take the computer to the backyard and shoot it. Hope this information is of some use to you. C'mon back and let us know how things went.
