Lok3sh Posted August 23, 2010 Report Share Posted August 23, 2010 Hey guys!So I have AVG free and Malwarebytes Anti Malware installed on my PC. Everything was fine this morning, until I closed Malwarebytes for a few minutes to do something. In those few minutes, a random setup icon landed up on my desktop, seems to have run itself and installed some random fake antivirus software (I forgot the name). It made a little box come to the bottom right of the screen and it started its own "virus check". It was a green box if I remember right. There was no quit option. It wouldnt close. It would not let me use alt+crtl+del. So I booted into safe mode, went into the MSConfig and there were 3 new random startup items. So I found those registry entries, went into the registry, located those entries and deleted them. Then ran Malwarebytes anti malware and removed whatever it found. Then ran AVG. Came out clean. Then ran super anti spyware. Removed like 3 things.This is the problem though. Whatever happened to my PC, may be out now but it has modified something and is not allowing IE to use the internet. My opera browser works fine. Anything that is dependent on IE won't work. My weather gadget does not refresh. Chrome does not work. When I try to go to a website with IE it says:"http:///" in the address bar, and then a message saying:"The address is not valid Most likely causes:•There might be a typing error in the address.•If you clicked on a link, it may be out of date. What you can try: Retype the address. Go back to the previous page."Can someone pleae help me get this fixed?? Any help would be very much appreciated! Lok3sh Posted August 23, 2010 Author Report Share Posted August 23, 2010 Yep it was Antivir!Actually under the lan settings, the "use proxy server" was checked and the "bypass" was checked. I unchecked that and everything worked fine! Thanks a ton! Everything works like normal now :) Should have figured that stupid thing changed my proxy settings!!
