I have installed W7 on machines previously with XP and found a marked improvement in performance. This is likely to be due to the new installation not having as much extraneous data to plough through as is inevitable with old installations.

1.3GB RAM is not a lot but should be adequate.

Here is a how-to http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-xp-to-windows-7

-pops-, what is the lowest amount of RAM you know of that runs Win 7 effectively.

I am told Win 7 will run satisfactorily on a mere 512MB RAM. I am not convinced.

I have 1gig RAM on an old XP SFF machine that is sluggish.

I am thinking of reformatting and doing a clean install of Win 7.

What do you folk say...

Thanks,
