CurlyWhirly
This is the first time that this has happened and I know I could get things back again by running Norton Ghost but, as this can take around an hour, I'm hoping for a quicker solution :D I know that the bookmarks are still there as I followed the instructions on this link and they are displayed below:I'm stuck because in the section 'Restoring bookmark backups', I can't see the menu at the top of the Firefox menu as it isn't there. All I can see when I open up a Firefox window are the range of bookmarks that I've got across the top of the window. These are my most used bookmarks but the bookmark list (accessed from the top of the window when it's working) is not shown and I have a few hundred bookmarks in there.Any ideas please?I have tried reinstalling Firefox but they are still missing :(

CurlyWhirly
Not to worry, this is so frustrating that I've decided to run Norton Ghost as I really miss my bookmark menu :( However I just wanted to post what I see using Google - that is only an example. All I see is the page section enclosed by the black box, the section at the top enclosed by the red box is missing. -pops-
Have you looked in the Firefox Help files?Under "bookmarks missing" I found: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Lost+bookmarksThere is quite a lot more information which may be of use. CurlyWhirly
Thanks so much -pops- Your advice worked.I don't know how it happened but I got the bookmarks list (and the usual menu) back temporarily by pressing the Alt button - I didn't know about that till I read the article !I followed the advice under the section 'Corrupt toolbars and controls' and I put the tick back in the 'Reset toolbars and controls' box.RESOLVED.p.s. I didn't need to run Norton Ghost after all :D Edit: spelling
