Hello

I have a computer with installed Windows XP home edition. Acer incorporated.

I had to change motherboard and now my Windows doesnot run. I understand that is normal because motherboard is different and I have to reinstall or repair windows. I choose to repair windows, because I have a lot of imporetant programs installad and is better choose for me. Problem is I havenot got original Windows XP CD.

I tried with some Windows cd I have which are Windows XP Proffesional and Windows home, but no one let me repair. They let me start new instalation or entering in Dos (Console or Terminal) it detect it, but later when I havwe to choose R to repair windows, it doesnot detect instalation.

I think, the problems is because I need some exactly the same version, or every version of Windows home should work for me?

Please any idea how to reapir it?

I don't think you can repair it unless you replacement motherboard is of the same series as the original.

A number of large manufacturers (including Acer, I think) have their own versions of Windows which only work on the computer/motherboard they were designed for.

My feeling is that you will need to obtain a new hard drive and carry out a NEW install of Windows. When you have done that it should be possible to connect the old drive as a secondary drive and extract your important data from it.

I doubt that you will be able to transfer programs, however.

It is not problem for me to transfer information. I can run live Windows or Linux and copy what I need.

Problem is there are a lot of drivers and programs, that was installed from another person and a long time ago and the easyest way was to reinstall windows, because it is impossible for me to recover reinstall these programs and configuration files.

So, it is impossible to reinstall windows?

On this computer I found a label in which it is writen

Windows XP home edition acer incorporated.

I have an ACER notebook that came with OEM 7x64 HP.I wiped the drive (including the ACER hidden recovery partition) and used a W7x64 universal .ISO to install the same version of Windows (ACER only warrants hardware).Opted to Activate later after making sure all was well.Had to Activate By Phone.Used the COA you refer to in your post. The only chipset driver that I installed from ACER Support was for my touchpad sroll feature.Aside from that Windows install ran perfectly.

Saying that,I would obtain an install disk that is the same as what you are running now and see if you can repair.Couldn't hurt to try.

I can not say that this will work for your XP machine.I would definately back up everything before trying anything. If possible, ceate an image of your disk. You never know what you can do with it down the road.

I believe there is software out there that can obtain program install keys from your OS.I can not suggest any for I have never used one.May be a myth...:unknw:

Hope this was helpful.
