D4\/!d
Not that this will help you much but Win 7 simply found my sound drivers or did it with Win Updates. In fact I find that Win 7 typically finds most drivers.I suppose you have tried searching via Device Manager [to get to Device Manager press start and type Device Manager in search box]Of course it could be that your compaq motherboard does not support Win 7 sound and there are no Win 7 drivers issued by the manufacturer. D4\/!d
The hp site says this:A driver enables your PC to communicate with other hardware or devices. Drivers for Windows 7 may be included in the operating system, distributed via Windows Update , or downloaded from HP. Please note that drivers for Windows 7 are available for select models only.Source

ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Try http://www.drivermax.com/ - it can find drivers for unknown devices.Use the free version that can download up to two drivers per day.

bludgard
I use DriverMax..My display driver was inactive.Anything I installed from ATI or Windows couldn't get rid of errors in EV and the 2-5 second stall at boot right before Windows goes to the "good" blue screen with the message "Please Wait...". I fought with this for months. No one knew what the cure was.I keep it out of strartup programs. edit:ya'll will be happy to know that I have no events logged since last night. With several shutdowns.:D
