WIN7 Mapped Network Drive Issue

Hi All,

Now I know I have mapped these drives and I probably did it the wrong way, now I can't get rid of them.

My External Toshiba NTFS HDD is seen under Mapped network drives (N)and not under removable drives.

Also when I plug the drive in via USB it does not auto start/play either?

Is there anyone out there that knows how to delete a mapped drive, I tried to disconnect it but it just says 'This network connection does not exist' I can however browse the drive when clicked on the 'diconnected' drive N?

Any help please, this is for Win7 x64 Ultimate edition.

Is this causing a real problem to you or is it just untidy when you look in "Computer"?

If the latter, you would be best leaving it alone. You can cause all sorts of problems by injudicious and unnecessary tidying up.

If it is causing real problems, what are they?

You are dead right, it is a tidy thing!

But it is killing me, are there any options?

Would appreciate it, off course I will first look into what will the cons be...

I will take the chamce even if it means reloading windows!

Seems that most every time I create or delete a partition all the the drive letters change.I have no clue as to why this is or how to keep it all tidy.I'm pretty sure that if you get it all set up the way you want it,Windows will thwart you.I would also venture to say that it would take some very meticulous planning to have and keep it all ordered.

For those who wants to know, you can sort this problem fairly easy.

I got the info from a couple of guys that knows what they are doing thanx to the guys from

See below how My Computer looks before and after I have done the tweaks.

Before:

After:

1 - My Toshiba HDD is now showing as one of the HDD.

2 - My two mapped network drives through my NAS is still showing as mapped drives, whicj is what I wanted.

Now, Here is how to do it:

Note: This guide shows you how to make changes to Windows 7 using Group Policy. Group Policy is not available in Home versions of Windows 7.

1 - Type gpedit.msc in the Start menu’s search box and then press Enter.

2 - Navigate to User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, and then select Windows Explorer in the left column of the Group Policy editor.

3 - Double-click Remove “Map Network Drive” and “Disconnect Network Drive” in the Settings section of the Group Policy editor.

4 - Select Enable, Aplly and then click OK to save the changes.

Restart your PC.

That is it, remember the ones you want removed (disconnected mapped drives or un-used drives) needs to be unplugged in my case and not in use.

This will not remove drives that is in use or connected before you apply this changes!

I think I'll leave mine alone for now but will most assuredly fiddle with it in the near future....

I do have HP so the game will be to do some customization.Ahhh,who am I foolin'?I will probably never screw around with it.....
