IamConfused Posted January 10, 2011 Report Share Posted January 10, 2011 Hello folks! I have an older machine that I had laying around and I'm trying to install a fresh copy of Windows XP pro on it. When I get to the screen where it says something along the lines of "press a key to boot from cd...", anything I press won't work. I'm pressing keys and it just sits there waiting for me to do something, then the time runs out and windows starts to load. The keyboard works and all the lights are lit up during the boot. IamConfused Posted January 10, 2011 Author Report Share Posted January 10, 2011 Yea the option is already set and during the boot up process, the computer acknowledges that there is a CD in the drive. rong Posted January 10, 2011 Report Share Posted January 10, 2011 I'm not an expert and hope someone else will be more help, the only other thing that comes to mind is it could be a problem if it's a usb keyboard, if it is if you can find one that fits in the round socket that is for the keyboard and try that. It is a wireless mouse/keyboard and the little hub (or whatever its called) is connected with a usb wire. I'll try to use a wired keyboard and I'll definitely let you know. One thing I happened to noticed was I wasn't able to get into the F8 screen (the one with all the options) using both keyboards. Its almost as if the keyboard is inoperable during those few seconds. I tested it using the caps lock key and the light wouldn't turn on or off for both keyboards. Not sure if that's normal. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Not sure if that was what you were talking about but, I just put enable and that seemed to do the trick. Its weird because I never had to mess with that. Oh well, all is well now.
