coolboy Posted January 18, 2011 Report Share Posted January 18, 2011 ight so i had home professional and then this weird virus came, i did the f11 hard drive format that u see when u turn on the computer. so it fixed and i got my 32 bit home professional working fine.then i had this genius idea to use my friends windows 7 ultimate cd his friend downloaded from him to install windows 7. wen i installed it, i opened the start menu and the only programs listed were: acessories, games, maintanence, nd startup. then i was like uhh... wtf? so i tried doing fn and f8/f9 to increase/decrease the volume and the volume worked but that blue bar display wasnt showing. then i tried using fn to change the brightness and that wasnt working at all; no display of the brightness meter nor brightness changing. nd wen i turn on the computer the hp black toolbar thing on the top doesnt come either. wen i go to uninstall programs, only the programs that i installed show up, no preinstalled programs show.i tried to go back to windows 7 home professional but the retarded thing says the computer would stop working and i cant format it anymore (attached is a pic). nd the f11 hard drive format doesnt work either...wat do i do!?windows 7 ultimate 32 bit (upgraded from home professional)core i3 M370 2.4 GhzHP probook 4520s2gb ddr3 ram7200 rpm hard drive speed (idk if its relevant...) -pops- Posted January 18, 2011 Report Share Posted January 18, 2011 Windows will never voluntarily commit suicide - that is permit formatting on the drive it is loaded upon. The easiest thing would be to remove the "C" drive from the computer and use another machine to do the formatting then reinstall on the original machine as a "clean" disk. AlanHo Posted January 18, 2011 Report Share Posted January 18, 2011 If you are using a laptop computer - Windows 7 will not install the programs/drivers required to use the Fn key in conjunction with the function keys to adjust sound, brightness etc. You need to install the computer manufacturers set up disc to do this.I see from your attachment that there is an HP recovery partition on your hard drive. Use this to restore the computer to its original operating system. I assume the computer came with the necessary instructions on how to do this. bludgard Posted January 18, 2011 Report Share Posted January 18, 2011 A clean install is just that,a clean install.There are no pre-installed programs on Windows install media.All that bloatware is from your machines manufacturer.The issues with volume and brightness are manufacturer driver relate.You can find these chipset drivers at HP website.If you want to wipe the hard drive or any partition thereon,boot from the Windows install media and open a command prompt to run DISKPART.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300415I personally wiped my entire drive (including the ACER recovery partition) when I reinstalled Windows.The only thing that the warranty covered was hardware,so this was of no consequence.(I called ACER to verify this,so you may want to contact HP to confirm if you wish to do the same).If there are other questions,feel free to ask.Lot's of knowledgeable folks around.;)edit:You should have several entries in Start Menu,including,but not limited to,IE,Media Player,Getting Started,Sticky Notes,etc.If you do not have these,the install media is probably corrupt.
