Help me, please. I want ubuntu to NOT see some folders.

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I have a network with:

- A windows 2003 server promoted to domain controller. It haves a folder named "Profiles$" and another folder named "Shared"

- Some windows xp clients in a domain.

- a ubuntu 10.10 client.

I want to have a specific user from my domain to have acces to both "Profiles$" and "Shared" if it does login on a windows xp machine, but i want to only have acces to "Shared" when that user login on a ubuntu machine.

Could this be what you are looking for.

thanks, but this is not what i am looking for. in fact, the profiles are from a windows 2003 server promoted to domain controller.

each user has their own profile folder stored on windows 2003, but they log in with windows xp clients in the same network.

the profiles folder is e:\Profiles$\%username% . the "$" at the end of folder hides the profile folder to avoid direct manipulation. but with ubuntu, "$" does not work at all.

Surely then you can use.

Simple Example ( 1 ) - Jim's Photos$

Simple Example ( 2 ) - .Jim's Photos

Where the suffix ( "$" ) will hide a folder in Windows.

And the prefix ( "." ) will hide a folder in Ubuntu.

(You see where I'm going here ?)

Variables of the above should be the answer to your problem.

If that's not the answer, I'm not going any further with it.

Linux always ends up hurtin' my head.

sorry man, this is not a solution because you can't in windows, put a "." for prefix...it gives an error

I'll just restate what I said in the first place then. :)

"Let us know when you have got it up-and-running, there may be other readers who would wish to know how you went about doing it." ;)

John.
