Timmah_82 Posted January 25, 2011 Report Share Posted January 25, 2011 about 6 months ago i upgraded my laptop to windows 7 ultimate. i have a hp dv9033cl laptop. for the better part of 6 months i have been running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit without any issues whatsoever.recently my computer crashed so i decided to back up my files and do a frash reinstall of windows. upon reinstallation and after running windows update it would crash constantly. id restart it and it would crash. as soon as update runs and restarts it will crash. i have since experimented a bit and after removal of the drivers for my video card it has been running ok. of course my screen resolution is lower than what it is normally but it is at least working. any ideas on what the problem may be? any ideas as to a solution to the problem Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
bludgard Posted January 25, 2011 Report Share Posted January 25, 2011 Hi,Timmah_82.What exactly do you mean by "crash"?is there a bluescreen?Any error messages?A sudden shutdown?You could probably find the answer to what is causing this by looking in the Event Viewer>Custom Views>Administative Events.Without being able to get hands on,it is difficult to say what is troubling your machine.It definately sounds like a driver conflict.Maybe you can figure out what particular update triggers this and uninstall it.Then hide that particular update within WU so as to not install it again.If I can assist further,keep your thread updated.One Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Timmah_82 Posted January 25, 2011 Author Report Share Posted January 25, 2011 Hi,Timmah_82.What exactly do you mean by "crash"?is there a bluescreen?Any error messages?A sudden shutdown?You could probably find the answer to what is causing this by looking in the Event Viewer>Custom Views>Administative Events.Without being able to get hands on,it is difficult to say what is troubling your machine.It definately sounds like a driver conflict.Maybe you can figure out what particular update triggers this and uninstall it.Then hide that particular update within WU so as to not install it again.If I can assist further,keep your thread updated.Oneim talking blue screen, crash message then the restart. i know for a fact that it is a driver issue now. i have tried a few things and have isolated it to my video card driver. i can update every other driver and update in windows update not a problem but if i install the driver relating to my video card it will crash again. i can uninstall the driver and restart not a problem. but the only issue i have is that the resolution is less than optimal. instead of having a 1440 x 900 resolution, the max i can have is a 1024 x 768. i have tried downloading the driver directly from the manufacturer, which is nvidia. the card is a nvidia geforce go 7600. it seems that any attempt to install a driver for it ends up crashing. Or something like that. Cant remember off-hand, - and too lazy to look at the moment. :P.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.=.Cant any of these manufacturers get their arses into the right gear ????????I've just recommended Timmah a driver (Nvidia) which according to them is still in "Beta"We've got Adobe who still cant offer a Flash Player for 64bit browsers.I've had someone with a brand new Samsung phone with supplied software that supports neither Windows 7 or 64bit. I've had a laptop with a requirement for a "Special" AC97 install with no directions as to where to download it.(Wrong AC97 install gives/gave a Blue screen)The stuff is all out there, but you have got to spend a lot of time looking around to actually find it !!!!! Windows Vista went worldwide in 2008.Three years later NVIDIA are giving us a driver for the "Nvidia GeForce Go 7600" (Vista/Windows 7) which they are describing as bloody "BETA" on their download site !!!!!!!!!! You would have thought in three years they could have made the effort to be a little more confident.Rant over............. Timmah_82 Posted January 25, 2011 Author Report Share Posted January 25, 2011 i tried downloading thee driver specific for laptops directly from their website and still it crashed. i havent as yet tried the beta one you recommended but i certainly will give it a go. what makes it even more frustrating for me is that it isnt exactly a new laptop or anything. i have had this one for a few years now and all of a sudden it decides to stuff up on me. Timmah_82 Posted January 25, 2011 Author Report Share Posted January 25, 2011 i cant thank you guys enough really. i just installed the beta driver recommended earlier and it has worked perfectly. i had been looking at other forums and had come to the conclusion that my video card was stuffed and i was looking down the barrel of having to replace my laptop, which at present is unaffordable for me. i was geting so frustrated looking at a screen and knowing that it may not live as it should again. once again thank you so much guys, i appreciate the effort you have extended to me.tim. Timmah_82 Posted January 31, 2011 Author Report Share Posted January 31, 2011 i believe the beta driver for my video card has now failed also. yesterday my computer crashed again but due to time restraints i was unable to check it until today. i uninstalled the beta driver and windows restarted fine. i tried reinstalling the driver and it crashed. after the initial installation of the driver it ran perfectly but now i has caused it to crash also. what are the chances that the problem lies elsewhere? possibly the actual video card is the problem maybe? any other suggestions?
