Uninstalling in safe mode

I installed a software package as 'User A' that is creating a problem for me where the computer does not fully boot any more. So I just want to uninstall the program and get on with my life. So I logged in as 'User A' in safe moode and tried to uninstall the software package but it said the uninstall is disabled in safe mode. So I tried logging in as 'Administrator' which does allow me to uninstall in safe mode. The big problem is that that software package that installed under 'User A' is not in the list of programs in the Add/Remove programs list. What can I do to uninstall that software????

Welcome and howdy.

Can you restore your system to last known good configuration from within Windows Recovery Environment?Sometimes (if there isn't corruption issues) you can tap into this feature by tapping F8 repeatedly at boot.Otherwise you may have to break out the ol' installation media.

I take it you do not have any image backups of your HD from which to recover from?

Is this a program?Or a feature that is provided by Windows or Microsoft?

Any info on the software may be helpful.

What can I do to uninstall that software????

"User A." - Try hard to do a hold-back on the Cyanide pills, and shooting yourself "Hitler in the Bunker" type scenario. (Or any of the dramatics that go with computing problems.)

Typing the magic words "Uninstall in Safe Mode" into a "Search Engine" such as "Google" will return a result of a mere result of almost two million "Hits"

Try to cut yourself some slack, - Go for a walk in the countryside, - Learn how to use search engines to your optimise your advantage in computing.

If all else fails ? - Re-install from the most recent System/Disk image that you have made of your system.

(Having not done one, wins very little sympathy on this forum, and tends to get you branded as a #1 Di** Head I feel. )

The Windows Installer Service is not running in Safe Mode, so you can't uninstall anything that was installed with the Windows Installer.

Try removing it with the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.

Apologies for being a "Prophet of Doom" on this one Pat,and I am not in disagreement. But just in case anything should go wrong for our poster I will include this bit of information.

"Unfortunately, it was found that the Windows Installer Cleanup utility was could damage some other components of the Windows operating system. As a result, Microsoft removed the Windows Installer Cleanup utility from the Download Center."

"Although Major Geeks is still hosting the Windows Installer Cleanup utility, the use is at your own risk since Microsoft no longer supports the utility."

I have used it in the past with no problems at all Pat. But........ There is always that risk.

*SAFEMSI* as previously mentioned has a low/no risk.

As it is a non-installable .exe I usually just drop it on the root of C: or pop it in Program files of all Operating Systems that I work on.
