Payrise For Firemen.....

Recommended Posts

Hi all :D ,

Here's another from me....What do you think???

Me??? I think they deserve all they are fighting for. They risk their lives on a daily basis and are deserving of all they persue. The MP's gave themselves a healthy bonus and are scrimping on the public services. So what if the teachers/ police/ health service or armed forces etc follow?...They all deserve a better deal!

These services are the building blocks of our society and deserve a break. There is enough money thrown at George W's war games and the refugee problems. It's about time our services got a break!

And while we are at it...Lower the price of diesel ! ! !

ok then

here is another side to the argument

pay the Firemen there 40%

then you will have to pay every public service sector worker the same (40%)

then what happens!!!!!!!!!!!

Inflation goes up by lets say 10%

Interest rates go up by say 5 points(5%), in lamens terms this will mean at least £250 on the "average mortgage"(the average being(countrywide) £125,000)

Therefore if you have a mortgage of £250,000 double the above figure

And what will happen the country will go into deep recesion, thousands/millions will be made reduntant

For What-------------------------- a pay rise "which they deserve"

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

And thats just the tip of the monetry iceberg

Think about it folks

I don't begrudge the firemen/women a pay rise - but obviously 40% is way over the top. I'm sure they would have settled for a lot less but now other factors have come into play in the negotiations - efficiency agreements for example - which we all know means job cuts. It's all become too complicated (unnecessarily in my view).

 But what really peeves me is those politicians who give themselves massive pay rises (for doing what?) along with a load of perks... And they have the brass neck to dictate to decent working people. No wonder the turn out at the last election was poor. When politicians say to me that it was because of public apathy, I say "No! The public were abstaining - just like you lot do in parliamentary votes - because we don't like any of you self-serving beggars."

Phew! That feels better. :D

A third of that 40% will go back to the Government in tax and national insurance so 40% becomes about 26%.

We are all being conned all the time. Inflation goes up say 6% and we all get a 6% pay rise but as above a third goes back to the government. i.e we actually get 4% in our pockets.

The National Insurance should not have a ceiling on it, as it is the poorer paid actually pay a larger percentage of their wages.

Don't you lot start me off, I can be real trouble when aroused.

There is an easy answer to this ... Pete

Link politicians pay to other public employee.s like the Police ,Firemen,Military, and Nurses....... After all the politicians are public "servants"...They get the same rise as they approve for these services.....................

I think you would have found the Fireman would have settled for less than the 40%, remember most unions put in for over what they will accept so that they can be brought down to what they really want.

I have to say though I agree the fireman are due a substantial pay increase, like most public sector workers their pay has fallen behind throughout the years, also, the fireman have another reason to have a decent pay, they have to pay a huge wack of their pay into a pension fund as they are forced to retire early, can't remember the exact age but I think it is 50, personally I think the fireman should not be far behind (if at all) the police, as their job can be every bit as demanding and dangerous.

i admire the job that firemen do and respect them for it...but i have to disagree with their demand for 40%...its just absolute rubbish!.......most firemen only work 3-4 days a week...and get £22,000 for it....sure im not saying that they dont earn it but think about all the people in this countrys armed forces who are being shipped of for weeks on end without seeing their families and facing possible death and wounding! all for just over £200 a week!!!!!......how the firemen have got the nerve to strike now with all this going on i dont know!!!

Anyway...ill step down now!

The firemen are worth every penny of a 40% pay rise however they have as much chance of getting it as Osama Bin Laden has as getting to be president of the US.......

However all members of the fire service knew the terms and conditions of employment when they joined so have they all just realised that they are worth more??????

Also, when tax goes up to pay the firemans wages, are they going to demand yet another pay rise to cover their increase in tax?????

OK we all know that 40% was way too high, but that was the idea. Put a high bid in then come down to a more acceptable one with negotiations. I definately feel they deserve a GOOD payrise and alot more than what they were offered. I read reports of some MP's getting 60% payrises, this is scandellous! We put 'em in power and they pay themselves what ever they like and nobody says 'boo' to them. 60% is ludicrous plus they are on alot more than the firemen to start with. I know who I think is doing the better of the 2 jobs ! :D

As for morgage increases...Isn't it about time the interest rates went up anyway? They are rock bottom at the moment and I am getting 'sod all' interest on my savings.   ;)

I personally think the Firemen are wrong by doing what they are.

Firstly, they knew how much the job paid when they took it. From what my dad was saying, tons of people want to become Firemen (*cough* Firepeople)

Secondly, they're putting everyone's lives in danger. Didn't think that one through to well.

mmmbisto...

That's what the goverment wants to happen. Like it did in the fuel strikes a few years ago. The longer this goes on and the more horror stories that come out of it, the quicker public opinion will go against it.

Anything but give them a decent offer... :D And why can't they do that when they can give themselves 60% in some cases??? The firemen are, and have always been, open to reasonable offers, but the government don't seem to want to negotiate. :(

Scarthy....

The firemen might be open to reasonable offers, but , they are being led by that bloody idiot Andy Gilchrist. He claims to be a marxist..so why doesn't he bugger off to a marxist country where he will be among like-minded people? Not a chance....he wouldn't be able fiddle the company expenses and get to screw female fire fighters when on company business.

It never ceases to amaze me that people like that get into these positions of power.

(Right...off to check the blood pressure and heart rate)
