Hi,

I am running Windows XP Home Edition (SP3) with 2GB of memory. I tried to d/l Microsoft DirectX SDk and got the following error message:

10006432783.jpg

So I go to the DXerror.log and the Directx.log files and see the following gobbily gook:

10006370369-orig.jpg

10006472021-orig.jpg

Does anyone know what this stuff means and how I can fix the problem?

Thanks!

You are trying to download and install a software development kit, which as an end user you normally have no need of. DirectX9 is already part of Windows XP. If you type dxdiag in the runbox ( press Winkey and R to bring that up) it should take you to the diagnostic utility page. It might ask you if you want to check for signed drivers. Good to say yes but your choice. On the System tab (top left) it will display the version of DX that you have,it should say 9.0c. That is all you need and trying to install the SDK is a redundant exercise - unless you are developing games or applications. You can allow the utility to test all areas as described by the tabs on the top, and save the results to log ( very long) if you have a problem and want someone else to look at the log, though for most of us (me included) it is a tad too techy.

Pawz,

Thank you for your post. Apparently this issue may be a little too "techy", in another forum that is filled with people who call themselves "geeks", not one person replied to this post. Let me start from the beginning. I recently purchased a analog to digital converter called Video 2 PC http://www.ionaudio.com/video2pc The goal was to convert old 8mm video tapes from my old analog camcorder to DVD. However, when I captured the video on my laptop the video was in black and white instead of color. So I called Video 2 tech support for help, and it was they that suggested I download Direct X 9, because there product simply does not work without it. But if you say that XP already has 9, I will take your word for it, and look somewhere else for the solution to the problem.

Thanks!

wish I could help with the main problem, but it is outside my orbit. If it has anything at all to do with the laptop, I would have thought it would be in the area of graphics. I recall that older desktop computers I have worked on would sometimes have a TV capture card. Maybe it is something like that you need; specialised hardware rather than software. Sorry I cannot help you further.
