If you simply deleted the partitions, you might be lucky, but you installed a whole new operating system, and all its files over top. That creates a big problem if your goal is to recover the data that was previously in those partitions. If you are trying to recover data, you might try Recuva, from the makers of CCleaner.

I have tried Recuva. And found it lacking as far as complete data recovery. Maybe I just do not understand the software?

I would suggest TestDisk as well. I have recovered working images with this program. Not the most user friendly, though.

Just my two pence.

No recovery is perfect - especially if the disk has been used at all since the file/folder/partition was deleted. That said, Recuva is primarily a file and folder recovery program, not a partition recovery program.

Therein lies the rub, gentlmen (Ladies).

If I hit a hard drive with a four pound beater, can the data be recovered?

If you want to backup Windows as well as Liinux partitions, I would suggest Clonezilla. Never done me wrong.

Some say they can get the data no matter what. If you have the time... go for a degree. It ain't worth more than experience these days, but it pays the bill. (Not). ROTFLMFAO!

Edit: Spelling was atrocious....:0
