Dual Boot Windows 7 and XP *Problem*

Recommended Posts

hi, im trying to install XP on a HP dv6 on a serperate partition to Windows 7.

Ive set the boot device proiority in the BIOS and when booting from the XP CD, i get the blue screen of death afer loading all drivers and RAID controllers etc? now i read about third pary SATA drivers and i know my laptop has SATA, but ive got a feeling im not even getting far enough for these drivers, it says if you need to install 3rd party raid drivers, press F6

any ideas on the blue screen of death while trying to boot?

thanks

Ok thank you alan for your reply

My next question is, is it possible to dual boot XP and windows 7? Would this cause any compatibility ussues when boot either os?

I read to disable the SATA in the BIOS

Do i need to create a partition first, or can i do all this from the XP CD

Obviously i will need to check if drivers are avaliable for XP. But i just want to accomplish installing XP first. Any other info you can help me with

Thanks for the help ;)

and extracted them to a folder, the folder includes two drivers,

iastor.inf (says type SCSIAdapter)

and

iaahci.inf (says type HDC)

Im not sure which one to slipstream with XP. Also, the both shop up as PNP mode not textmode?

The driver you linked to is for the 64 bit version of XP Professional, are you installing that version of XP?.

Try this URL

I always think that there comes a point where one has to consider whether it is worth all the hassle in trying to achieve what you are trying to do.

I'm still not convinced that persisting with an obsolete (or at best obsolescent) is the best way to go but, possibly a look at http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=&q=dual+boot+windows+7+and+xp&sourceid=navclient-ff&rlz=1B3GGGL_en-GBGB341GB341&ie=UTF-8&aq=0&oq=dual+boot+w will help (or just Google "dual boot Windows 7 and XP")

I think you should give up. The information given to you in this topic contain clear instructions how to identify the drivers you need, how to download and slipstream them. If this is not enough for you, then no-one can help you.

In my view it would be far easier just to run Windows 7 in XP mode. Much safer too.
