Booting from CD drive on startup

Recommended Posts

Hi Everybody,

I want to start the install process for Ubuntu from a dvd when starting up windows.

I restart windows 7 and press F8 for system loading options,(with the Ubuntu Dvd in the D drive) when that window opens I press Esc and the only option to load is Windows 7.

My question is how do I get my computer to boot from the CD drive on start up?

Hi Boris

Thanks for the help.

It is as you said I press F2 on boot up which takes me to the BIOS options on my laptop Windows 7, and from there I can nominate Windows to either boot up from the Hard Drive or my CD Drive.

I guess when I start up again I will change the BIOS settings to Boot up from The Hard Drive after doing the install for Utunbu.

At this point of time I haven't gone any further, have spent enough time today.

Certainly a learning curve when you know very little about computers.

Thanks Again.

Hi, Macdrew.

There should be the option of booting from other devices without changing settings in the BIOS each time. I believe this can be accessed by pressing F-12 at boot and then selecting the preferred device. (I had to enable this feature on my ACER machine through BIOS one time and can choose which device to boot from by using F-12).

To enable the F12 Boot Menu:

1. Restart the computer.

2. Press the F2 key to enter computer's BIOS Setup during Power-On.

3. Press the Right Arrow key to select Main

4. Select F12 Boot Menu

5. Press the Enter key

6. Select Enabled

7. Press the Enter key

8. Press the F10 key and then press the Enter key to save the changes and restart the computer.

:hi:
