pawz7 Posted July 16, 2011 Report Share Posted July 16, 2011 keep tapping a key when you see 'boot from cd'. If it still doesn't work, possibly the CD is faulty. Can I ask why you want to boot from the CD when the system is working? If it is because you have a problem with Windows, you could try putting the CD in once Windows has booted to desktop, and then type sfc /scannow in the runbox. The machine will then access the cd from within Windows, if it needs to, to replace any damaged or missing protected system files. it might help :) ps, there is a space between sfc and the /. pawz7 Posted July 16, 2011 Report Share Posted July 16, 2011 ahh... have you tried pressing Windows Key+R to bring up the run box (or click on Start-Run)and typing msconfig in the box and then pressing OK? Then you go to the Startup Tab and untick everything, click Apply and come out and restart and see if that speeds the boot up. If so, go back into msconfig and only tick what you actually need to boot (all the other stuff can be invoked by machine when necessary or when you click on its icon), which is probably just the security utilities.Skype is one app that slows the boot, and any messenger applications I guess,Office, calendars, desktop gizmo's, and if you have only the bare minimum of 512MB Ram on your machine, with everything wanting to come in at boot it will demand a lot.
