Printmaker Posted August 9, 2011 Report Share Posted August 9, 2011 Recently installed a new graphics card into my 6 year old HP Pavilion desktop with PCI Express utilizing the expansion slot. The card was meant to help out my single core CPU with the graphics on Flight Sim 2004 and the newer FSX. Was trying this approach because the socket for a new processor is obsolete and the older cards are pretty cheap. It did help but with a minor snag. On boot up the CPU is maxed at 100% and will stay that way until I do a standby and then come back on again. Of course this makes for a slow boot also. The CPU then drops down immediately and functions normal until I power the computer down and then the problem is back again on the restart the next day. It's an easy fix to get the CPU to settle down but I would like to get to the heart of this problem so I don't have to do the standby thing. I do power down at the end of every day, prefer it over a standby. Looking at the applications nothing seems out of line. Had it to Best Buy and they had no answer for me suprisingly other than in the boot up it may be looking for two cards. My CPU stills runs at max with the Flight Sim but my frames have almost doubled with close to maximum graphics. Could use some advice. Printmaker Posted August 10, 2011 Author Report Share Posted August 10, 2011 I had ATI Radeon XPress integrated with one expansion slot. Checking the bios was mentioned at the Best Buy Geek desk and I did open it but evidently I didn't know how to get there because I didn't see anything regarding graphic cards.
