krl0309
I had to replace my hard drive, and don't have an OS disk for ME. Is there a place online I can download one for free? If so, do I just use the product key on the bottom of my laptop when installing? Thanks!
Boris
I doubt very much you'll find anywhere on the web to legally dowmload an ME .iso from :(If you have an older machine and do not want to install XP then why not give Windows 2000 a try ? krl0309
It had xp installed on it when I got it, but the person didn't have a disk for me to use with it once I replaced the hard drive. I just assumed to use ME, since I had a product key for it, and then I guessed he could just upgrade to what he wanted.
Boris
ME has been unsupported by Microsoft since 2006.I am also not aware of any reputable and free anti-virus products which still support ME.You could look here - but I warn you that you do so entirely at your own risk !!!I have no idea what is contained in these files available for download, which are described as "abandonware"./>http://www.mywindowspage.com/download/os.htmI personally would instal a Linux distro on it.What spec is the laptop ? krl0309
Yes, I might try some sort of linux on it, as he basically just wants to be able to get on the internet with it. It's an HP Pavilion XH365. I just installed an IBM Travelstar 30GB hard drive on it, I think it was 4200RPM. That's really all I know. Boris
Couldn't seem to find the specs of that one from HP.AFAIK, the most RAM that it can take is 512MB of PC133 - probably only 128 or 256MB fitted as standard ?I also believe it has a Pentium III 800MHz CPU ? - almost an antique :)You'll need to find quite a "compact" distro to run on that. krl0309
I've got it on there now, but I can't get on the internet! It's got a D-Link airplus card plugged into the side. It says it can connect to it, but when I choose a browser, it goes through the motions of downloading it (I guess), but then it asks me if I want to install it and I say yes, then it freezes up. Can't use the mouse or anything. It's done this with 2 different firefox ones, and a seamonkey one.
krl0309
Is there a way I can install windows to the hard disk while running puppy linux from the boot cd?

How long are you waiting for the browser to become active? Are you running the Full Install of Puppy?
