Fax from PC

Hello All,

At my place of employment, we are trying to implement the ability to fax from the PC. We have recently purchased a networked All-in-One printer/fax/copier. My question is, do we need to simply install a Fax card in the server and share the connection across the network (Only 5 Users)? Also, is there a software that everyone recommends to use in place of Windows own Fax software? Any information is greatly appreciated.

What OS are you using, XP, or Windows 7.

At the primary place of employment we are using 7 on most pc's, but there are two older PC's that are on XP.

I remember a FAX setup I made once where all the faxing was carried out via the FAX hardware/software contained in the all-in-one printer itself. All that was required from the computer(s) was to prepare the message and send it to the FAX facility of the printer. The printer was connected to some machines by Ethernet and one was wireless.

The way of doing this was different for each brand/model of printer and the facility may well still be the norm (it was some time ago when I did this).

Remember that FAX is an old analogue technology and requires a dial-up phone connection to work properly.

Although I currently have a FAX facility for business use, it it very rare for me to send one and even more rare to receive - except for junk. Before going to a lot of effort setting this up, consider if it is viable for your business. I certainly wouldn't set up a new system now.
