SlashWannabe94 Posted September 13, 2011 Report Share Posted September 13, 2011 Hello all,Virtual machine(virtualbox) - Windows XP Home EditionHost - Windows 7 Ultimate (connected to the net by a T-Mobile USB dongle)I am trying to set up a network between windows xp home edition and Windows 7 Ultimate. On the windows 7 host the network connections show two LAN's my actual LAN inside the computer and the virtualbox host-only network. virtualbox host-only network has an ip of 192.168.56.102. They both can ping to each other but i cannot seem to telnet between either of the machines. I have switched the Windows Firewall off on both the host and the virtual machine and enabled telnet server in the host (w7). Can anyone tell me what is going on here? Lastly i was wondering how i would route the internet connection coming from my dongle down the virtual box host-only network adapter so i can use internet in the virtual machine. Or just the ability to share files/folders between the two OS?I am not sure about the VPN, but there is the option of Shared Folder within VBox.The shared "folder" can be configured to either read only or full control; auto mount and/or make permanent. Then again you may know this already and I am just babblin' on.It's fine dude, i just want to get the virtual machine to telnet into the host and vice versa but i'm having no luck. I can't figure out why it doesn't work. They are both enabled to use telnet and they can both ping to each other. So i don't see why they shouldn't telnet between each other. Can't say as I do not have knowledge of telnet; but I have been reading up on it lately. :PI'd do well to keep my machines connected to my router wirelessly. I'll try to reproduce your setup. This may take a while. At least I will learn something. Check back periodically for updates. I'll post any triumphs or faliure. If you figure it out first, post it, bro. Nacht Posted September 20, 2011 Report Share Posted September 20, 2011 Not sure if this is of any help 5 days later but you should just be able to set up ICS on your host machines dongle connection. If that doesnt seem to work try bridging your dongle with the adapter listed on your host as the VM adapter. As for the telnet, that is a stumper.
