Dual monitor question

Recommended Posts

I looked around the internets and couldn't find anything that dealt with my exact situation so here goes.

I have a vga port built into my computer. i also bought a video card that has 2 dvi ports.

I was wondering if it was possibly to have dual screens with a vga connection to the stock card in my computer and another dvi connection with my dvi video card i bought.

when i go into the menu for adding a second display the second one shows up gray but i tried everything and couldnt get it to connect.

thanks

sean

Hi, Sean. Welcome to Windows Forum. :)

The lack of enthusiasm to reply to your problem may arise from the fact that you have failed to provide any information regarding the make/model of the machine in question, the operating system in use on said machine and anything that you may have tried to resolve the issue. As diagnosing problems on a machine from a distance can be difficult at times, this information is crucial and can mean the difference between help and help not.

So, if you would like to trod further down this path of enlightenment, download Speccy, run the program on the troublesome machine and post your system/hardware specs as the are presented in your next post. We will see what can be done.

You can run dual monitors from your new card with the dual DVI. Your onboard is probably disabled when you insert a new video device(this is why the 2nd screen is greyed out but you have another monitor hooked up). It is possible, more than likely, to enable the onboard card again in your computers bios and use it but this could degrade performance in games. So bottom line, just get a dvi-vga adaptor and run both monitors off the new card.

yeah i think the onboard one was disabled. im using a 19 inch insignia tv for the second monitor and i found that there are dvi-d to hdmi cables. http://metropcsolutions.amazonwebstore.com/Dynex-6-DVIDtoHDMI-Cable/M/B003U52GH2.htm?traffic_src=froogle&utm_medium=CSE&utm_source=froogle

could i just use this instead? would that work? let me know if u need any other information. i dont really game on my computers. i just use it for school work/whatever else and i have this extra monitor so i wanted to use it instead of sitting in my room collecting dust
