coreysan
For Win 7 64-bit, I used the file associations tool so that when I click on a Visual FoxPro file (.dbf) it wouldopen it with MS Office Excel 2010. Trouble is, the program won't really assign excel as the program, even when I specifically click on the program name,as in the following: c:\program files (x86)\Microsoft Office\office14\excel.exe. Although I'm not logged in as administrator, my login ID has been given FULL CONTROL by the administrator, andI've already established that I can edit the registry. Does anyone have a suggestion for setting the file association such that it "takes"? Thanks for any response!Corey P.S. It worked just fine until we upgraded from Office 2007 to Office 2010. bludgard
As I am not familiar with Visual FoxPro, I can only suggest that if you want to set database files to open with Excel by defaul, try to remove the file extention association within Visual FoxPro user interface and try again to associate this extention with Excel - making sure that the changes are saved and exited properly. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
If you look at the properties of a .dbf file, what is it actually associated with? What happens if you do the file association manually? (I do not know the file associations tool.)
MANEMAN
Always remember that "FULL CONTROL" can be misleading. Especially when you further have to open with elevated command prompts, Take Ownership, and a plethora of other things that you dont really want to do in the middle of trying to fix a problem. If as you say, you can edit the registry, - obviously you have taken ownership of that though. :) Jus' sayin' for anyone reading that Full Control doesn't always mean what it says. If anyone is experiencing file association problems it is well to keep in mind that virus attacks can, and will do this to your computer. Give it a good scan before you waste too much time. You can also download "File Association Fixer" from Softpedia, - Here: http://www.softpedia...ion-Fixer.shtml And the open source "Coffee System File Association" - Here: http://www.lupopensu...m/db/coffee.htm That gives you a fighting chance at least. Never had many file association problems until I ran Windows 7. That could be pure coincidence of course. John.
MANEMAN
Just realised that the link I gave for "Coffee" gives little info. (Just a download link) Coffee is portable. Therefore requires no installation. And it is free. Looks like this:
