can't unpin from jump list

Please forgive me if this topic has been asked before but, after doing a search I did not find anything.

Recently I decided to rename a few spreadsheet files in order to follow them more closely as time goes by. I created a new shrtcut for an Excel jump list in the Taskbar but, I can't delete the old shortcut with the path to the old file name.

I rectreated the old file name too and tried that but, still I can't delete the jump list shortcut.

I am deeply concerned because I use a couple of jump lists in my everyday work. One for Excel files and one for Access.

There has also been little things happeneing to my Access shortcuts like not getting to open the shortcut. I would click on the shortcut and nothing would appear to happen. I tried opening the shortcut from within Windows Explorer but, the Explorer Window would appear to blibk and that was all, no file opening...

The only way I could open the file was to open Access and open the file from within the recent files list.

I deleted the old shortcut and made a new one and that is now working but, now it doesn't open immediately. A MessageBox appears with options for 'Open' or 'Cancel'.

I used to be able to simply click on the shortcut and Access would open with the file. This still happens with my Excel files when I click on them.

This only started happening around Xmas time and makes me wonder if some update or other has reset and upset settings somehow.

Whatever the reason it is very frustrating and I really wish Microsoft would do away with their attempt to restrict access to folders that we could access no bother with Windows XP.

For these few very frustrating reasons I have decided not to use Windows at home. I get everything I need from the version of Linux that I use inlcuding not needing any drivers whenever I connect my phone for downloads/uploads of files. It is so easy to simply plug in the phone to USB and accept to connect as storage device and then the computer sees the phone just like any other storage device. Copying music and photos is so easy without having to install any software whatsoever.

I digress, I need answers to my Windows problems if there are any and I am grateful for any suggestions people might have.

Why do people feel that they have to come on to a Windows forum and bang on about how great Linux is and how crap Windows is, when it obviously is not getting them any closer to the very problem they posted about , and then go on to omit which Windows operating system they wish help with ? :lol:

There must be some logic there somewhere, it's just that my non-linux mind doesn't quite see it.

Have you yet tried to return to a system disk image or system restore point that you made ?

Try unassociating the file paths of both Access and Excel.

Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools contains a utility named ChkLnks.exe which works with Windows up to 7.

This will allow you to remove dead shortcuts from yout taskbar or desktop. ( http://www.computerp...Guy/chklnks.zip ) I have also used Orphans Remover in Windows 7 to good effect. ( http://www.freewaref...ogram_8837.html ) No doubt a Google search would find newer software to carry out the same task.

Restricted access was implemented for added security. It takes no more than a basic understanding of operating systems later than XP to understand UAC, Elevated Command Prompts, Administrator rights, and Take Ownership to access most files and folders. In many cases you are able to disable many of the inbuilt security systems and leave the Windows operating system fully open to hackers and those with nefarious purpose if you should so wish.

Android, MAC and Linux home computer users are only just going through the infancy of having to implement security unfortunately.

Why even bother to troubleshoot a Windows machine if Linux is so great? I will trash anything/everything I deem crap. Life is too short to be discombobulated by something as simple as a look at device.
