Showing content of folder on desktop

Hi peepz,

I need to be able to show the content of a folder on my desktop.

I have 2 monitors and ideally monitor 1 would show the standard desktop while monitor 2 would show the content of a folder I could assign.

Alternatively there would be a part of the standard desktop that would show the content of the other folder.

Does anyone know of this is possible and how?

Kind regards,

f.

Hmmmmm........... Well................ Hmmmmmm....................

Are you an Irishman by any chance ?

I'll tell you my setup, and see if that makes any sense, or is of any help to you. (And my family roots are Irish. :) )

I have two monitors in permanent use. Others are not in permanent use. One monitor is set up permanently to one of my desktop PC's. The other monitor is connected to a laptop.

All PC's are networked. All PC's are in data sync to the same one source very simply with "Second Copy." ( http://www.centered.com/ )

I can control all computers from one mouse and keyboard by using "Input Director" ( http://www.inputdirector.com/ )

By using different "Team Viewer" accounts on various computers I am able to open multiple desktops on multiple computers.

( http://www.teamviewe...m/en/index.aspx ) A closed folder I can view in an "open" situation using the sync capabilities of "Dropbox". Therefore I can view a folder in many instances either on one monitor or multiple monitors through the stages of "Closed" "Thumbnail View" "List" etc; etc. ( http://www.dropbox.com/ )

The guy next door is allowed access to my router, and I to his. In this way we can both be part of each others network, and once again we can have access to multiple monitor viewing by way of Team Viewer. Copy & Paste is achieved by way of "Input Director" and more complex file/folder sharing can either be done with, "Team Viewer." The normal network "Shared Folders" or a little gizmo I found on Google Code Called "Transfer-on- Lan ( http://code.google.c...ransfer-on-lan/ )

Of course we have not yet started into the area of multiple desktops on one lone computer.

I hope that this has given you some food for thought on which way you may wish to go forward.

John.

Theoretical things always sound more complicated when you start to write about them. In practice they become really easy.

The whole point of me telling you about my setup is that you may not have been aware of things like: Input Director / Second copy / Team Viewer / Dropbox Sync / or Transfer-on-Lan. I have no idea of your level of computer competence, or what computer or operating system you are using so therefore I had to guess on what may be useful to you. I never suggested that you run into overkill only that: "I'll tell you my setup, and see if that makes any sense, or is of any help to you."

It is almost impossible to design what you required because you missed out on mentioning the basics. - How many Computers ? Type/s of operating system ?One computer with dual output graphics card ? If More than one computer what is type of graphics output ?

How are we to know that it is, - "so not what you need" ?

I threw out ideas to be useful to you. Your response should have been "Thank You", and not - "this is so not what i need"

Hopefully someone reading will have learnt about a new piece of software that they didn't know about before, or gained a bit of knowledge.

That's the really important thing to me. Bugger those whose manners fail them.

Whoopsie, somebody missed a smiley!

If my response came out rude I apologize, it was unintentional.

And although I can apreciate you talking the time to respond to my question I don't think I am being rude by pointing out that your solution is not what I am looking for.

To answer your questions: the whole idea is to have a desktop that will show the standard desktop (C:\Users\meh\Desktop) on one screen and the content of a folder of the same computer on the other screen (C:\my2nddesktop) or as a drag and drop container somewhere on the desktop. I need to be able to drag and drop items from 1 desktop to the other.

OS: win7 ultimate.

Graphics card: Radion HD 5700 series

Solution only then: :)

Make sure that your graphics card has dual output whether it be a mixture of VGA. HDMI or whatever other video out it can supply.

Make sure that the monitors match whatever video out that you choose, and that the whole setup will run in the combination that you have chosen and think will work.

Research what it is that you personally wish to do, and follow it through so that it is quite clear in your mind, and you have a solid plan. Try to decision make on your own.

Put your plan into action. If it fails the first time, experiment some more until it does.

Job done.

Thank you flor.

Nimi Places is downloadable at Softpedia:

and is a very similar program to Stardock's "Fences":

"It adds a KDE 4 desktop organizational style to Windows."

"Fences" was always a bit "Hit & Miss" when used with dual/multiple monitors and even now you still see the moans and groans. - I didn't like "Fences" very much when I used it on a single monitor. :(

I'm not sure how "Nimi Places" holds up in the same dual/multiple monitor setup, but it's relative, Nimi Visuals has only limited dual monitor features.

Nimi Places is one of those pieces of software that integrates well into the general confusion of Windows 7. A download gives you an "As-Is" without instructions.

I can imagine the "Average Joe" getting themselves into a heck of a state with this. It's quite pretty though. B)

Would appreciate some feedback on this flor, along with some screenshots/videos, and details of how you got it to flow with 2 monitors from a Radion HD 5700 graphics card.

The original request was : "I need to be able to show the content of a folder on my desktop.

I have 2 monitors and ideally monitor 1 would show the standard desktop while monitor 2 would show the content of a folder I could assign.

Alternatively there would be a part of the standard desktop that would show the content of the other folder."

I've played around with it and found it to be a pain in the butt to set up on a single monitor.

Would love to see it working well on a dual monitor setup.

Videos please ! - Bludgard will certainly want videos. The world for him doesn't exist until someone has video'd it.

If anyone would care to turn their desktop into an even bigger three-ring-circus there is also "Shock Desktop 3D"

( http://www.docs.kr/e...ck-Desktop3D-en ) Doubtful if this will work with 64bit though.

Here is the official Nimi Places presentation video. - No verbal instructions. :( Just pretty pictures I'm afraid Bludgard. :)

9 minutes of it.

Hey, why am I being dragged into all this mumbo jumbo about things I know nothing of?

Interesting thread, though. Thanks for the movie, Nano.

Lots have been goin' on since the SOPA/PIPA affair. Busy findin' a new lair to park Grace O'Malley.1. It would appear that the waters are shallow and me keel keeps draggin' the rocky bottom.

At the moment my time is consumed forging The Elite Corps of Cyborilla Yeti (or TECCY). This goverment meddlin' has gone on long enough.

Edit: I tried to watch the movie, but my speeds are between 1and 2.5 kb/s. Have to catch it in the morning.
