Reds
K, new to this forum and am guessing the question to follow up gonna sound noob. Bear wif me pls. I want to backup my windows 7, just the OS itself. I don't need any of the other stuff i have in my pc now.Be it pictures, other downloaded programs and so on. I already managed to download all the drivers from the VAIO website. So intention is to restore fresh, with just windows 7 + all the drivers. How do I go abt doing it? I tried to do it with the built in Windows backup option but the options are either 1. windows chooses allthe backup files for you(which i believe will include all the chunk pics, videos and so on) or 2. you choose yourself. In terms of choosing myself, I don't know what to choose to get just soley windows 7 on my backup disk. Your advice pls. Thanks in advance. -pops-
It used to be that Vaio machines were all supplied with a backup disk containing all of the Windows program and everything necessary to restore the characteristics of that brand of machine. Is that no longer so? At the least there should be a partition on the hard drive that contains the information necessary so it should be possible to restore or re-install from that. If there is lot of stuff on the machine that you no longer require why not just delete it? It's safer to do that than re-install if you're not very familiar with that process. Reds
I bought this VAIO laptop abt a year plus back. It didn't come with any discs be it windows 7 or any drivers. The current drivers I managed to obtain are all downloaded from the VAIO website. I want to re install cos a day back, the laptop failed to startup, it went into some consistency check, it auto deleted some stuff (no idea what) and now my internet not connecting on that laptop. Also gives a message saying my windows is not genuine which is weird. Cos this is the windows already installed on the laptop since i purchased it. Seems all messed up. Want to just load up everything fresh if possible.

Did you catch that bit about a Sony factory recovery partition on the hard drive that -pops- alluded to? If you have gone that route and the recovery partition is corrupt, acquire install media that matches the COA on the machine and reinstall. As for Windows going non-genuine, start here; after reading up a bit, download MGADiag tool. Run MGADiag and push the Resolve button under the Windows tab if it is available.Let's see how it goes....
