Duc
Every so often, my Windows 7 Ultimate taskbar turns grey. Before it happens, the screen flickers to black for half a second. What is the cause? The os is fairly new installed on all new hardware. Windows update is update to date as well.

-pops-
Check that all plugs and connectors are fully and properly inserted and secure.
bludgard
Also backup the current graphics driver or grab a standalone installer of driver and uninstall the driver from within Device Manager: Maybe even through Programs and Features (uninstall). Reboot the machine and reinstall graphics driver. May need to reboot again....Something else one could try: Go into display settings and turn Transparancy off. Reboot. Turn Transparance back on. Duc
Check that all plugs and connectors are fully and properly inserted and secure. Are you referring to all the plugs connected to the pc both internally and external?
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Before it turns grey, what color is it - blue? While it is still blue, can you right-click on it and lock the taskbar. Does it still happen then? P.S. I am surprised that you have no systray (notification area) on your taskbar. (Edit: or is it only a partial taskbar you are showing?)
