Why do Win Explorer windows lose my manual layout settings?

The manual layout settings I make in Windows Explorer windows are not all being remembered. It used to be very reliable.

It does not matter how many times I change them, Windows later does its own thing and uses other layouts. Sometimes it remembers for a while and then it forgets.

Is there a way around this?

You need to increase your BagMRU limit in the Registry

• HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU

In the past I have successfully upped the limit to 10,000 compared to the 5,000 value quoted in the article.

I too used this in the past but had forgotten about it.

Have you ever tried this with Win 7x64 yet?
