poolhustler
Hi. I have Windows 7 installed on my computer but I want to try Linux Ubuntu. I don't want to create a partition with Ubuntu on it. I want to erase Windows. My question is, is it possible to erase Windows7 OS and then reinstall it with the help of a recovery-partition or with the help of the backup cd's/dvd's your supposed to burn when you've just bought the computer? Thanks
Belatucadrus
That depends a lot on the backup CD, different manufacturers use a variety of systems, some create what is nearly a full Windows disk others a much less comprehensive product. I think you need to read any manufacturers manuals that you got to see what you can do with it.Have you tried booting froman Ubuntu live disk, it'll give you a fair idea as to what you'll get from Linux. poolhustler
I have tried booting Ubuntu from an external drive but I need it installed for a period of time. Is it possible to use a external drive instead of cd's/dvd's when you do the safety burning in the beginning when you just bought your computer? Belatucadrus
Probably best to check with the manufacturer, not knowing the details of the provided backup system we're limited to guessing which could be misleading or just plain wrong. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Why not just make a backup (image) of your current system, then reload that after you want it back?
