Acronis -- Boot Disc-- Rescue Media Builder

Recommended Posts

Am going to buy Acronis this week!

I will purchase a disc, rather than downloading from the 'Net

Which leads to the point of the Boot Disc/Rescue Media Builder.

I assume I need the Boot Disc in case I damage the Acronis disc, correct?

Also am I correct in saying that to be able to make a Boot Disc you have to select certain parameters on installing Acronis, if not you do not get the Rescue Media Builder installed?

If I'm correct on this point, what parameters do I have to select & is it clearly pointed out in the Installation notes?

I have just had a look at my Acronis and you do not need to set any parameters.

Just click on Tools and Utilities then click on create reacue boot media and then go with the automatic selections.

I have been using Acronis for years now and have never used the parameters to make a rescue disk.

Alan,

Thanks, strange because this is a bit out of the User Manual which makes me think I will have to take a action:-

6. This step is available only if the Set additional options check box is selected in the Serial number window.

In the Setup options window, choose the installation options:

 Select the components which you want to install:

 Acronis True Image Home 2012 - the main component which allows you to back up, recover and synchronize your data, add and clone hard disks, etc.

 Rescue Media Builder - this component allows you to create bootable rescue media, such as CDs, USB flash drives, etc. You might not need this tool if you purchased a boxed product that contains a bootable CD. Installing the Bootable Rescue Media Builder will allow you to create bootable media or its ISO image at any time from the main program window or running Bootable Rescue Media Builder on its own.

I think the Rescue Media Builder is installed by default.

You will definitely need it; as soon as there is an update available for your Acronis version, you must create a new rescue disk.

I remember a few years ago (I think it was Acronis 9), I tried to restore a backup that I created with an updated Acronis version using the original Acronis disk; it failed!
