micer foghn

Recommended Posts

for some reason the sound settings icon on my windows 7 system says micer foghn when it's hovered over, instead of sound or sound level. MSE doesn't report any malware, or spybot S&D. There doesn't seem to be any prevalent issues with logging in, logging out, shutting down, excessive hardware use, and so i'm assuming a program has changed this.... can someone help me find out why? the only two things that even present a suspicion are the installation of FC13 or a tumblr link... i don't have any real specific information. there are no out of the way services running. the drivers seem to be find according to device mngr, i don't use a proxy atm either (TOR has a tendency of making everything in the browser another language because it reroutes traffic). I'm really kinda stumped. thanks in advance. be back in 45 minutes to check the post.

i should maybe add that i have locked down win7 as best as i can with the exception of encrypting the drive. remote settings are restricted, port access is restricted, startup processes are monitored; etc. being that there is no out of the norm behavior i'm almost sure it's a prank? i mean it's locked down as far as checkboxes go; could renaming the icon be done with a hex editor?

i did the same thing, with translate and searches almost nothing. the micer foghn google search came up with a bunch of pdf links of similar title with micer and or foghn. i didn't click any links. i also looked at the sound properties application under the hex editor, and while i can see remnants of the 'micer foghn' in the hex values human readable portion, i wouldn't know what to do with it and it could be my eyes playing tricks on me. i nearly downloaded malware bytes to check for a start menu hijack, but i've used it before and it presented what i think was a false positive while there was no sign of anything like a hijack. i'm at a loss. i ran chkdsk, sometimes that fixes issues, /f and /r and it went through the wheels turning, but nothing. again no spyware or virus hits. if i don't get a solution i'll have to reload the pc unfortunately.

well i can't definitively say what caused the issue, but i just renamed the icon in properties and restored to an earlier date. the renaming seems kind of out of the way for the kids to do, plus this login is password protected, but who knows. hopefully just left it on and the little one got it.
