New Laptop - Windows 8 user issue

Hello,

I just purchased an Asus g75vx Laptop (preinstalled win8/64b) and it arrived yesterday. It was a replacement item from my insurance compnay as my previous laptop was taken when my house was burgled.

I followed all the procedures required by windows 8 when booting up for the first time. It asked for my email account that I assosciate with Microsoft and password, so I promptly added the same I used on my old laptop/xbox 360 etc.

Now this is where the problem is...

When I logged in for the first time, it had my username as Jennygirlie Bloom, not my actual name that I entered, and the default user folder is also jennygirlie, not my name. This is extremely irritating, and I'm not even sure what the problem is. I was able to change the name, but it still defaults all downloads etc. to users/jennygirlie.

I'm just wondering what is it? Why is it doing it? And can I get rid of it?

This is obviously a major irritation for me, as the laptop is brand new.

If you are a male it sounds as though your insurance company has "outed you" as transgender, transexual, or just cross dresser. Although this is a serious breach of the data protection act, the lower premiums afforded to ladies by some insurance companies could work to your advantage.

If you are female, I've got to say that the name has got a certain "Redneck" charm to it, very similar to say the - "Billy John Bob." - popular with the redneck community.

I am not sure why this would keep defaulting to the wrong name. Perhaps the Laptop has been rigged.

A while back I posted about a free Windows 8 eBook download from Microsoft which may give you a workaround for your current problem.

Here is a link to that post:

I dont have time to elicit any information from that eBook on your behalf at the moment as I have to return my wife's clothing to the closet before she returns from shopping. Here's hoping that the eBook helps in sorting out your problem.

All the best Jenniegirlie. Y'all come back soon now, Y'hear ?

John.

If the user name is what you say, it sounds to me as if it has been previously used/set up by someone. Did it come properly sealed "As new" from whoever supplied the item - or is it one that has been refurbished/on display i?

I note your location from your I.P. address - is this a common practice "down under" ?

The model of the laptop was only release this week in Australia, and it's not even available in most places worldwide as of yet, so I don't think it's that. I've actually searched the name Jennygirlie Bloom and some people are reporting the same name as a virus? I'm unsure how - on a brand new, factory sealed laptop.

I was thinking that it could potentially be something to do with the fact my other laptop was stolen and the "thiefs" somehow managed that; seeing as how I am using the same email and logon as my old laptops user account.

I could however, be way off base....

thank you for responses. I will do what you're recommending, Boris.

Yeah ! Apologies for my silliness. It was the sort of mood I woke up in today. :)

Do exactly as Boris says, - and also read the ebook if neccessary.

Boris Said: is this a common practice "down under" ?

Yes it is Boris. My mate Bert had the old "down under" operation done, and has been living happily as "Susan" for the past 5 years.

You've got to admit mate that when you get a post, and the username is "Rigged" then changing to "Jennygirlie" it is not too hard to take the bait. :paperbag1:
