johnoo Posted December 13, 2012 Report Share Posted December 13, 2012 On occasions, when I switch on my machine in the mornings it will not switch on.To activate the machine I take out the power plug & hold down the on/off button for a minute then release it & then hold it down again for a short time. After this I reconnect the Power lead, press the on/off switch & all is OK.Questions please, what is causing this & is there a more permanent solution? eeon Posted December 13, 2012 Report Share Posted December 13, 2012 Modern ATX power supplies use a momentary switch for power - I've never believed in the "hold the power button down to cure this / that / the other / dissipate static" thing. Some people swear by it however!I don't know your level of expertise but even a quick check inside the machine to ensure all the cables and switches are firmly plugged in might find the problem. It could be a faulty case switch. Otherwise can you try another PSU in the machine? Even if it means buying one locally and returning it if it's not the problem. I know I'm on a faulting hard-drive kick these days, but we've been dealing with older hardware. Has any diagnostics been run to eliminate the possibility of drive corruption?I asked for the screenshot to determine the make and model of installed drives (for trouble-shooting purposes).... can you try another PSU in the machine?
