bobby_2009
Hi,of late, my windows 7 enterprise has been freezing up for no particular reason. i have been using this computer for some time now with no problem, until about a week or so ago when i first detected that some programs were not running properly. how it typically goes is this: first, a particular program would go into 'not responding' mode. i have noticed this first culprit program is almost always ms office or adobe reader. i would then try to close this program through task manager, which somehow is not able to close it. i have tried using other applications to force close stubborn programs like ProcessKO and so on, but none works. this freezing would then extend to other applications, until finally even my chrome browser hangs. that's when i lose all response from the system, and have to press the power button for 7s to force shutdown.i have tried a few trouble-shooting techniques: i used windows updates to download and install all the updates available (even those non-critical ones). this seemed to help somewhat, till the system crashed again just now. i ran AVG anti-virus to see if i had a virus, then i ran windows defender too. these turned up nothing suspicious. i am not sure what else i can do to pinpoint the reason for all these frustrating hang-ups. any ideas from anyone?thanks. andsome
One thing you can try. In Tools/manage add ons, disable them all and see what happens for a couple of days. If this solves the problem, re-enable them on by one until you find the culprit. This won't cost anything and is well worth a try.
AlanHo
The first thing I would do is carry out a system restore back to a date when the computer was running OK

I had your problem while using IE, I disabled all add ons on Tools with IE open. I later had another problem much the same, that I tracked down to Rapport. The people at Rapport agreed that there was a problem on some computers. Uninstalling it solved the problem. They now claim to have solved the problem but I have fought shy of reinstalling it.
