Strange Windows 8 Power problem

Hi all!

Since installing my copy of windows 8 pro (64 bit) i've been having a rather strange problem...

Sometimes during use my laptop would crash randomly. Then when i boot it back up, it acts as if it were a desktop! The battery icon isn't in the start bar, i can't get on the laptop power options, other utilities i download can't detect the battery. But if its unplugged, it'll still run off the battery just fine....

I believe this to be a problem with Windows 8 as i did reinstall Windows 7 to see if it was something wrong with my laptop, but that worked just fine. It also worked without any issue on ubuntu.

My Laptop is an Acer Aspire 5750 (with Intel I5 processor and 8GB ram).

Any help would be much appreciated, because when it works, Windows 8 is turning out to be fast and enjoyable.

Thanks!

Hi there.

The reason behind the crashing should be fairly easy to find with event log and maybe .DMP file.

If it is really elusive I would use the (Built In) driver verifier. Do remember to turn it off when the job is done: > verifier /reset & then do a reboot.

As for the missing battery indicator I guess you looked around the internet before you came here and found that there were as many fixes as you can shake a stick at for this problem, so it is not worthwhile me repeating them all. Apart from that I dont know the answer. Someone else may come along on here and suggest something, or maybe someone at Microsoft Technet may have come up with a "Current Fix". This problem goes way back to the W8 preview version on some computers. I was under the impression that it had been sorted out. - Obviously not.

I've got to put this following video up just for the laughs. Big video. - So little information. :)

Best of luck.
