MANEMAN
I've noticed from time-to-time that we still get a little flurry of questions relating to Windows XP.I checked back into the "Essential Guides" archives the other day for something that at the time, (Written / Posted 2004)I considered a good guide posted by "Scarecrow Man"Here is the link: http://forums.windowsforum.org/index.php?showtopic=15213&hl=+my++computer++just++crashed.++i++cant++load++windowsWhat I am seeing on my monitor is saying that something hasn't quite stood the test of time very well for some reason ?Luckily back about 2010 I copied the post as a PDF. That PDF is still intact and remains on a friends computer. It contains clickable links as in the original post which allows you to still visit an original article by Microsoft on corrupted Registry in XP, and also an article on the Recovery Console.Should anyone on the forum wish to download this 2004 post as a PDF, you can find it HERE It may just get you out of trouble if you are still running the beloved old XP, and you cant get the blighter to boot. Irene
There was a link included to an MS Article in SM's guide: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=307545 which is still good.
MANEMAN
Yep exactly ! - that is the very same link that I mentioned was included in the PDF Irene. If the Microsoft explanation seemed just a little bit too much for folks though, "Scarecrow Man" did a very nice walk through of the process, which at the time I thought was pretty neat, and could probably be more easily understood by the "Average Joe" (Layman)If anyone would still prefer "Scarecrow Man's" more easily understandable version you have the option to download the PDF along with comments in the thread. bludgard
Thanks for that, MANEMAN. I have actually implemented various recovery console commands on XP and the method posted works (as long as one has the time and tenacity to follow through). As -pops- mentioned in the thread; back-ups/images are supperior when verified (or a plain old clean install). Even in 2004 you guys were pushing for back-ups and still the world has run amok....Just sayin' that a PDF may be easier to access or print if there be no internet connection to find this information.Cudos, ol' boy.
