XP and Yahoo Mail

Hello again all you WF stalwarts.

I have just poked my nose round the door to seek a little information for a fellow luddite of mine.

He is in a time warp reaching back to the days of XP, which he is running using Yahoo Mail for email purposes.

He tells me that he inadvertently clicked on an icon (somewhere toward the right of the Yahoo mail page about 20% of the way down) which instantly prevented him from working "off line". It was apprently his custom to type his emails off line and then go on line to post them.

I have not seen this thing in the flesh but, from fiddling with Yahoo mail on my Ubuntu 12.04.1 set up, it appears as though the icon/switch is a function originating in XP rather than an inherent piece of Yohoo kit.

What does the team think?

p.s. I have no idea what the shape of the icon was, and sadly he could not describe it.....but then I suppose if you have been using it all these years it would be unimportant as long as it was always there in the same place.

Just thought is he struggling with IE

As far as I could ascertain, rong, he doesn't do any "Exploring" at all. He uses his computer just for email, and I think he has got it into his head that all the time he is typing in his email text he is being charged for line usage. I have not got round to that with him yet.

I have a standby Yahoo account and, like you, I can not find the "missing" icon, which is what made me wonder if it was a thing that was supplied by IE.

I tried it in FF and then found my IE that took ages to load and could find nothing in either and that was with XP

Thanks for that, rong.

Do you suppose it is The Curse of XP come back to haunt us?

I think I may have to go down to Market Weighton, to his home, and have a bit of a firtle with it.

I prefer XP, it lets me do things how I want to, I have 7 on a laptop and much prefer this one

Just a thought is he using it in the Yahoo page or outlook?

No, rong, he is using the Yahoo page. At least when he was here a couple of days ago and I fired up on my Yahoo page he instantly said word like "Yes that's it, and the icon should be just there." It was because there was no icon on my screen (and I could find no way of putting one there), that I thought it might be an XP generated thing.

I did find a couple of items mentioning setting up IE to work offline in XP, but information on this looks to be like intellegence in Westminster.....very much in short supply.
