KCincyF
I upgraded from XP to Win7 on the same computerI used the easy transfer feature but put it on my C driveNow I cannot do the transfer because it says I don't have enough memory.I cannot move the windows.old folder to my 2TB external drive to free up space on my C drive. I have MANY other issues, but would like to solve this one before moving on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kim in Cincy
-pops-
One or more of the "many issues" you have may be one of the reasons that you cannot transfer the data. Please tell us of these. Personally, I've never had much success upgrading and transferring operating systems. I always like to archive or copy all files I want to keep and install the new system and programs afresh. This way you do not carry over any "undesirables" on to your new setup.
KCincyF
Some of the others include preferences on certain programs and defaults that I'm used to, can't get Google Drive to sync with my laptop, cannot get search to work at all... How can I see what files are in the windows.old folder to get what I'd like to save? Can I just delete it altogether if I've saved actual files I need or if they are on Google Drive? -pops-
If the files are saved elsewhere than you should be able to install the new system, load all the needed programs and the load the files on you your new setup. Be aware that you cannot install programs (apps) from your previous installation. That has to be done from new or from a separate copy of the program. Irene
Hello KCincyF, here is a tutorial for upgrading from XP to W7:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-xp-to-windows-7#T1=tab01 It is advisable to print out the instructions before you begin. Also, before you start, download the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=
KCincyF
I read and followed the upgrade guide and the upgrade advisor prior to the upgrade, but now I have no room on my C drive, so things are unable to run smoothly. When I try to reload the windows.old with Easy transfer there isn't enough room to do so. I can't move the folder and I'm afraid to delete it...hence my dilemma
Irene
I just did a search and came across the following thread. The post by jaegermeister appears to have resolved the issue for some people with the same problem:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/easy-transfer-wizard-error-there-isnt-enough-disk/a44f217a-19aa-4b22-8503-e035a2519e81 Ensure that you are targeting the correct drive...
