I have just received the following in an e mail from ESET...

You may have seen the news in the past few days about ebay being hacked and may be worried about the impact it will have on you and your online accounts. There’s no need to panic, just follow these three simple steps to be safe and secure:

Remember to unlink your Ebay account from your Paypal account.

If you have your Ebay and Paypal accounts linked then don't forget to unlink them as soon as possible...

Go to My Ebay > Account (on tabs) > scroll down to

"Your Paypal account information" > unlink.

Fortunately I have a long standing loathing of Paypal so never had an account to link to. I've already used a password generator to create a new password and am seriously considering substituting my personal details for gibberish until I decide to use ebay again.

What pisses me off is this happened over three months ago and I've heard nothing from ebay despite it being front page news.

Probably an idea to think back on any sites you've opened an account with and give serious thought to whether or not you need to leave account details on the system. If you've not used them in over a year consider closing the account.
