AlanHo Posted May 28, 2016 Report Share Posted May 28, 2016 3 days before going on holiday to Majorca I decided to get myself a lightweight laptop to replace my 2.3 kg 15.6" screen Acer Aspire. I bought an Acer Aspire R3-131T 11.6" 2 in 1 Windows 10 machine equipped with An Intel Celeron Dual Core N3050 1.6Ghz/2.16 Ghz Turbo Boost CPU 500 GB HDD 2 GB Memory 11.6" Touch Screen. The keyboard can be folded 360 degrees behind the screen to be used as a tablet ( i will not be doing that) Battery with 9 hours life Cost £199 brand new. I loaded up all my software which included my Garmin map software which I find invaluable on holiday to plan trips and transfer waypoints to my sat-nav. But I quickly realised that the computer was being slowed down by the small memory. I ordered an 8 GB memory card on 24 hour delivery - but it failed to reach me before I left to go on holiday. Typical of my luck - it was delayed in the post - but the supplier credited the postage The computer performed well - but proved to be frustratingly slow. I could only have one programme open at a time due to the small memory. However - it did the job required of it. Upon returning home I fitted the 8 GB memory card which had arrived whilst we were away and the difference in speed well exceeds my expectation. Before - it took 4 minutes to boot up and almost 4 minutes to shut down. It now takes 1.5 mins and 40 seconds respectively. I can also have two or three programmes open and switch between them without a problem. Windows 10 will work with 2 GB memory - but at a snails pace. It is well worth upgrading to more memory. bludgard Posted June 25, 2017 Report Share Posted June 25, 2017 JMO: These new laptops are cra*. Wouldn't own them or Windows 10. Not against data mining and whatnot ( ) but it is just too da** much for me. I'm staying with i7 and i5 Thinkpads and Windows 7. Maybe your new laptop will settle in as soon as all info is transmitted and any "optimizing" is performed. LOL... sorry couldn't resist. I do hope it all goes well for you.
