artist Posted October 21, 2003 Report Share Posted October 21, 2003 Got this after sending an email - but not sure if there's a connection.msmn.exe-Application Errorthe instruction at "0x77f83905" referenced memory at "0x009a4718". The memory could not be "written".Click ok to terminate the program.Doesn't seem to affect anything much.......Hav I done something - or deleted something?PSI seem to be amassing a huge amount of temp files too - why would that be? bvw Posted October 21, 2003 Report Share Posted October 21, 2003 It's something to do with anti-virus artist, I think.I've just updated AVG with no problem on this machine, but on the other machine here AVG asked for "msimn.exe" to be closed down before it would update. There was no "msimn.exe" running in the processes in task manager. Both machines use Outlook Express and are XP.Strange, never had that message before. Select all files and send to the recycle bin, but just leave them there - Any problems with any programs restore the files. If files do not delete they are in use, so they will have to say.IN IE, Tools, Internet Options..., Delete Files, Click ok. (just to be sure)Now... There is a freeserve and OE problem, that some people have.Or as you say you just used OE, it could be a virus.Search again for the msoe50.inf file but when you search, click More advanced options and select "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search system folders". I spent over two hours on the phone, [At their expense] spread over two days trying to cure the problem.I'm using AOL at the moment so do not use outlook, but for a while earlier this year I moved over to Freeserve for a couple of weeks. Thats when I started to use O/E. Freeserve were excellent and also tried to help. They phoned me on my mobile, [didn't have Broadband at the time] and they also spent many hours trying to cure this annoying problem. Eventually they not only allowed me to cancel my one year contract but gave me back my first three months subscription, [special offer] and also placed a £10.00 credit back to my card as a form of good will. For that part alone I will always recommend them as a decent ISP to be with.The error seems to occur more often than not with the Combination of Freeserve and AVG. If you have the problem again, turn off AVG, [while off-line] and open/read your mail, then close O/express, it will not display the problem.There have been roughly 18 threads running in PCA forums over the past year on this problem, no one has yet found the answer that will definitely fix it.I have all the threads and post from PCA regarding this problem saved in "My documents" for future reference and to try to be of help to others. If you go into the PCA forum and type, scooby43 into the search box, use the "Or" not the "And" Then one thread with over 35 post/replies/links will come up and provide more information on this.The nearest answer I could get, and this was from Microsoft, also not being very tech. minded myself, I may have misunderstood some of the details, but it was something along the lines of."The portion of memory being used by Outlook Express to read/store the information was not letting go, and not available for use.Therefore the message, "The memory could not be written" was being displayed on exit from the program"You have no other option except to click on OK, this closes O/E and your system will continue to perform as normal, but it's very annoying and I for one will be happy when there is a definite answer found.Don't think I've ever said so much in one go before, hope I haven't confused you with my ramblings too much. I would phone M/S again but you only get 2 free help calls with each product, [i'm saving the other one for an emergency] and after that you have to pay for each help session. the sessions can last for as long as you have the problem and M/S will not close it until you are satisfied, so it can go on for many months if necessary. But when you do pay, it's £185.00 per session + VAT. Seems to have worked for some people.Last resort will be to put the XP cd in and try for a repair - but as I said - I always get stuck when it asks for a path?Funny that more people haven't had the problem.
