I have scoured through micro mart and your prices look quite keen.Your comments on the initial burst rate is valid depending on the cache size of the drive. Also it is getting some very good reviews.I hope you don't mind me saying but you are tending to go for a all singing all dancing machine. This will probably over stretch your limited budget. It may be well to go back to basics. You want a graphics machine.So what card did you have in mind? They don't need to cost the earth for what you NEED.Next you want a gig of ram. Will you get that extra performance over 512Mb.A 2.0 gig cpu is a must. Make sure it is a 333Mhz amd.You could tot that up and see what you have left, but remember that the computer will only be a strong as it's weakest component.It is possible to build an excellent base unit, for the job, within budget. Ellas has proved that with some very good prices. The thing maybe that compromises must be made to build a solid workable machine.Hope you don't take this the wrong way. You chaps are being extremely helpful.The amount of RAM is debateable but I want at least 512MB, ( Crucial, as you suggest, MH) The operator, Rosi, is prone to running many Photoshop windows simultaneously and she frequently freezes her 256MB machine. She's also frozen mine though, with 768MB, but that's only a P3 600MHz. I should say then 512MB to start and I'll go for the two 120GB SATA drives for convenience and safety of backup. This leads me to think that a RAID capable mobo will be a wise choice as it will push me to learn something new later on. I'll look at the suggested boards again now. For the extra £20 or so plump for the Deluxe version, you get 6 USB ports, 2 firewire ports, 2 100Mbs network controllers on board (3com and nforce), dolby 5.1 surround sound on board, serial ata raid controller plus udma 133 ide controllers, rocket nforce chipset and excellent board layout!I'm confused.
