-pops- Posted November 12, 2003 Report Share Posted November 12, 2003 I'm with andsome on this.I received one of the hoax "Microsoft" emails and they do look convincing at a first look and it was only because I know that M$ don't (or at least DIDN'T!!!!!!) send email notifications for things like this that I was not taken in.Regarding virus alerts, your installed anti-virus system should take care of that without any intervention from yourself. If it doesn't, change it for one that does.In respect of the ever rapidly increasing security notifications from M$ themselves, this should be taken care of in Windows update or by consultation on a forum such as this one. My preferred mathod is that last one as I don't like anyone or anything installing things on my machines, including M$ - they far from perfect and have been known to produce cockup updates.Just a thought - I wonder - how many of the millions (billions?) of computers with Windows operating systems have anything like the number of updates that are available and regarded as critical? I visited my ex-employers the other day (I left there in 1996). Surprisingly, they are up to date in using WXP but, using it as first issued with no updates, not even SP1.
