[RESOLVED] -WindowsXP and service pack1

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to download SP1 for XP (pro version) but as I'm still on 98SE M$ only links me to 98 updates. I'm sure I need it because I've run the compatibility check from M$ and it lists my ADSL modem under the soft- and hardware issues. Tried plusnet for updates but have been told that as long as I sp1 the appropriate drivers will be present - catch 22. Anyone help? :(

PS If I do go toes up then without the BB I won't be able to shout help in here -_-

You are a tease Nel! Spotted your last post while I was rummaging through my old PCA disks. Anyway I downloaded the SP1a patch using your link. According to M$ it's the same as SP! but without the Java engine (High Court requirement). This may B****r my ibanking access. Now folks, before the dreaded change over, where can I download the Java engine.

I'm almost ready. Have done a backup of my system drive to spare disk. Have copied all my data files from second partition on that disk. Have made copies of address book and favourite to thar disk. I've a nagging feeling that there may be an incompatibility issue there though. Have downloaded new driver for printer and CMI audio driver for M/B. Go to bed shortly and worry about what else I should do next.

As long as I have internet and banking access I can proceed from there, I think.

Just stick it in doug ...and do the updates after its up and funning ....!

My Athlon 800 had no probs going from 98SE to XP .........

Once its loaded it will update , It'll just take a long time on a 56K modem to update ....

I think the SP update ran to around 28 mb 's but things are getting a bit loose at my end ........I haven't reached the helicopters above the bed yet , but its getting there ........

jUST STICK IT IN AND HAVE DONE WITH IT MY SON

If it doesn't work , just think of the entertainment value in the weeks It'll take to sort it out .....

Mine was a dead easy load though ....jus makes you sick innit .......!

Well I'm back with XP PRO SP1. It went quite smoothly. Thanks to all for your suggestions and PM's. The SP1 pack did enable my ADSL modem to work. This is all a very strange country now. I'm sure I'm going to have lots of questions but promise I'll try and search the archives first. I do have an immedeate question which I'll start a frsh posting for.

Formal request for a resolved sticker please :D
