Tankus
Well..... another agricultural scare......(the Times) where our beloved spud is in peril . Farmers fear new epidemic as potato bug foundThere is no Cod left in the North Sea ,not much hope left for our national dish is there ...whoops sorry...! ...I forgot about the Ruby Murry's ....If this spreads, more that a few farmers will go to the wall ,as most crop insurances do not cover ring fungus infections ...Not that cheesy will giva fig as there are no bleating animals (photo ops) to get emotive over , and all the countryside alliances are stirring against him over the fox hunting issue .!Which incidentally (my opinion , for whats it worth ) a lot of peeps outside the towns don't really giva monkeys . Foxes are vermin , kill them and have done with it ...!There are a lot of bigger issues such as poverty ,loss of services (Transport .PO offices .schools, police cover, ambulance response times ,Local shops and amenities etc) that are more important , but the whole countryside disenchantment has coalesced around Fox hunting due to the money and political motivation that has been brought in , by this one cause ......!Probably parliament has spent more time debating this than the whole of the Iraq conflict ......!A useful diversion for B'liar ....but I hope in the end It'll bit him on the arse ! I hope our beloved DEFRA gets of its backside and nips this one in the bud ....
-pops-
I hope our beloved DEFRA gets of its backside and nips this one in the bud ....Great armies of botanists going around with their herbicide sprays killing every potato plant in sight and mass funeral pyres of suspect infected potatoes. When I worked for a living, I had some involvement with the predecessors of DEFRA (MAFF - a fool by any other name will still act the part). I wonder if this was the start of my total disillusionment with all things political?I recall quite clearly going to an annual general meeting of a trade organisation of the food industry. It was attended by some very high up directors and other influential people. Guest speaker at the lunch was Nicholas Soames the then minister in charge of MAFF and the "do" as at the Park Lane Hilton. I had the misfortune to leave the meeting at the same time as Soames, who was there with his male flunky and I heard him say as he walked down the stairs: "Let's get out of this place and rejoin the human race". This was a person who was elected into parliament by the populace of the country. Who the hell does he think he is?

moon
LARGE haddock and chips, £3.10.
-pops-
My nearest chippie is fifteen miles away. There is a place that says it's a chip shop but everything there was frozen a short time before it was sold, including the "chips". It doesn't deserve patronage or to be called a fish and chip shop.
