moon
I don't have a shred of any religion in my psyche but national character makes life interesting ( NO Euro under any circumstances !! :D ) I'll ONLY accept racial integration up to the point where the 'guests' begin to interfere with the indigenous people. Look what happened in the USA and Australia !! :D
Sir T Fireball
Actually Birmingham is NOT my area, but that is beside the point. My point is that MOST, (I did not say all), Muslim countries do not even tolerate the reading of the bible, let alone the building of churches. So why call people who have a Muslim place of worship built near to where they live whether they like it or not, RACISTS, because they find the caterwauling irritating? Regarding church bells, these can be irritating at times, but most Churches that ring bells were built well before the people who live nearby were even born, and if you choose to live within the sounds of such bells, then it is your choice. These poor people in Birmingham had no choice, they were there well before that particular Mosque. And the ELECTED representatives of the local populace allowed it to be built. I fail to see your argument against it being there. It serves part of the local population in as much as the local MacDonalds does. Democracy. Can't live with it, can't live without it :P
moon
Incidentally, if your local church bells are annoying you it is probably because they are out of tune or the ringers don't get enough hours in. You should ask your local holy person to have them tuned properly. For those close by to mosques, you may be able to swing a change of mullah. :D
Guest Grim Reaper
I fail to see your argument against it being therethe argument was against the constant noises, not the actual fact that the mosque exists.

Once allowed into our country and nationalised, they cease to be guests and become Brits. The plight of the native Americans and Abo's,hmmmmmm....... moon
Next to the black fellas themselves you won't find anybody more anxious to give back their country than me. Please note that I put 'guests' in inverted commas to head off the constitutional lecture that you've just attempted to deliver. :) Back on topic, Al-Qaeda have blown up a bank, an embassy and a couple of Iraqi police stations since the thread started. Time to retaliate, I do believe.PS. Aussie aboriginals are called 'black fellas' by choice. Don't go playing any racist cards with that term. moon
Well, we're obviously at war and there's only going to be one winner. I've tried to imagine the two extremes of outcome and neither is acceptable.
Tankus
Terrorism breeding ground....? Wed Nov 26,10:29 AM ETA Palestinian man walks through a hole in the newly erected wall, separating East Jerusalem from the West Bank November 26, 2003. Hussein Abdel-Al lost a home, then a son, to Israeli-Palestinian fighting. Then he found he was unable to pick up the pieces of his life. The 60-year-old grocer returned from a temporary shelter to rebuild his house, only to see a towering iron security wall cutting through land where the building once stood. moon
There's an 'art' factor to the survival of walls and architecture. If the Israelis wanted to do it right it would have had Islamic and Yiddish symbolisms, arches for peeps to walk through, alchoves for peeps to sit in, date palms, fountains, fish and it would have been a joint project built by the two cultures along the border designated by the United Nations.EDIT: The thought of which stimulated a poem.Merry Christmas all. :) The WallRed Mars has come, the closest for millennia, and warfare's drum resounds with warfare's sounds. The king of Israel, from his war-proof barrier, oils warfare's gun and nurtures warfare's hounds. In Palestine, the king surveys his armouryand black-clad men who haunt the desert , nightand days, train to attack the enemyfor Palestinian might in desert haze.If I could build a wall between the combatantsI'd build it on the wisest man's divide,no razorwire nor guards upon its battlements,no searching lights, no booby-traps inside.I'd hew it from the substance of the pyramidsso every facet showed the work of ManTwo armies would lay down their arms to help with it,to raise it upwards, just because they can.I'd decorate with Yiddish iconography, build minarets in gold along the way,a thousand palms for every mile's topography, quiet alchoves, so that those of Faith may pray.My wall would host ten thousand open doorways,a million gates through which young lovers call, ten million archways, twenty million windows,so many that it's not a wall at all. moon
