First run, 1289 ( Defrag, flag)

Installed Diskeeper Lite, ran it,

Second run, 1209.

Uninstalled Diskeeper.

Third run, 1320. :)

As my best score on my 'old' main machine was 370 I'm feeling just a little chuffed. :D

Got a few probs. though which I'll bore you with later when my high subsides. B)

Untweaked as yet. I'll have another look at it tomorrow if I get a spare couple of hours.

My cpu runs hot ( idles 54-58) and I've got to get it networked. I'm not used to Win 2000 and I can't find where you stick in the PC name and workgroup. :D It's running through the same ISDN modem as my other machines for net access but it can't see them and vice versa. All the IP stuff is configured so I guess it must be the name and workgroup thing.

Do you need task scheduler running ?

No, I don't. As soon as I install msconfig I'll thin most of it out. I'll look at Buzzsaw too, ta.

Bvw, nice one. As soon as I named the machine and workgroup I was into the network. Couple of strange things though. My new rig ( 2K) can see and access the other machines but the other machines are asked for a password to the 2K machine. I haven't installed any passwords, never do.

The other thing is that when the 2K machine is plugged into the network when the 98Se machines are off, the 98SE machines go into a boot loop when I start them If I unplug them from the network they start OK.

Now, I could just load 2K onto the other machines. I probably will later, but I'd like to get this cross-platform thang understood before I do. Any clues, cheps ?

( Blimey, there's a whole new mess of smileys to choose from ! )

Very nice little rig. B)

I put this together about 6 weeks ago, my first tenative steps into XP zone. :scared:

My rig You almost get there, and if you could install the nVidia Hard Disk Controller the number would rise even further, and maybe beat mine. This is stock.

Just a little challenge for me old aussie mate. :P

Can understand. I haven't actually closed mine up as yet. I haven't touched inside, but it's so quiet, that it's not an issue.

I've put a fan over the North bridge cooler, and hung another down the side onto the disks. They get real hot???

The nVidia drivers will make a big difference.

I think all usernames and passwords must be identical on all machines for it not to ask for a network password moon.

I run my 2 PCs 24/7 with no sides on because they get so hot.

I told the kids to be careful mind - computers are expensive!!

I've cracked that, bvw. 'Computer/Manage/ Local Users/Users and enabled the 'Guest' account. The password screen doesn't appear now but there is no 2K drive icon in the window.

I thought I might set the 2K machine's 'C' drive to 'Shared' so I did that but lost sight of the 2K machine entirely from the 98 machines. When I attempt to locate the 98 machines from the 2K I get an error message ' Explorer.exe has generated errors' and it closes the network window. In short, I am temporarily stuffed ! I hate Windows networking. Whoever designed it is dead and he forgot to leave the instructions. :D

EDIT. I went back and disabled the 'Guest' account again and the explorer prob. has gone. I'm beginning to think that you can see 98's from a 2k but there ain't NO way to see a 2K from a 98. Somebody got way ?
