Setting up NTL Broadband connection

I'm up here nr Newcastle and have just had a call from my mate down in Salisbury. He's had an NTL Broadband connection fitted and taken delivery of Sony Vario laptop running XP Home. He's in trouble trying to establish his connection to NTL. Apparently it's getting partway there then drops out referring to firewall/antivirus. He's got Norton Antivirus 2003 installed. I've managed to talk him through switching off the XP firewall but cannot make progress with the anti-virus. Can anyone make any suggestions?

Well I'm on NTL too, (lord I beg for your mercy) and I would suggest just simply pausing NAV while installing. And then when you reboot, it should return to it's on state.

The thing with NTl broadband is you don't NEED the software it installs. You just need to register the service through the webpages presented on the disk.

OK folks, Mike has just rung to say He's got a connection. It was a combination of Firewall and Norton AV. As he has got a streaming cold at present I think he's done well. Many thanks for suggestions. Apparently the Tech support at NTL wereas useful as Gordon Brown's benificence, which is to say non existant.

I hear so much about NTL support which is bad. The broadband support which is available in my area of Staffordshire is second to none. The staff are courteous, and knowledgeable, and all for the price of a local call. It really does depend where you live.
