Can't connect to Linksys router (solved)

I finally got an ethernet DSL modem, so now I can finally use my Linksys router. I followed the instructions to set it up (i.e. setting my ethernet card to use DHCP and making sure the gateway address was blank), but when I try to log into the web-based control panel (192.168.1.1), it just times out. I can't even ping it from my Windows computer.

On my Linux computer, I can ping 192.168.1.1, but I still can't log in. A guy on a Linux forum said that this was probably due to the router using browser-detection. I would assume that any browser would do, but I don't know what else could be wrong.

And I was sure to reset it when I was trying to get it to work this time because I think I may have set some of the settings when I first got it.

Thanks

Oops. I can't believe I misstyped that address both times. I really have been trying to access 192.168.1.1 (I fixed it in my previous post).

Anyway, I just realized that I had my ethernet cable plugged into the wrong port. When I plugged it into the right port, it gave me a couple "connection refused" errors, then went back to just timing out.

I guess I should be more careful.

Well, I thought I'd done that before, but just to make you happy I did it again, and it worked! I don't think I had ever reset the modem with all of my computers off.

Yay!
